5 Detoxifying Foods For Clearer Skin & A Healthier Body

If you are only just starting out on your health journey, or want to begin, but aren’t sure how to go about it, then these foods are a good place to start.

While any whole, natural fruit, vegetable or other health food offers an array of health benefits, these ones are top of our list as they instantly help to detox the body, promoting a healthier body and a clearer, glowing complexion. Best of all they work with almost any savoury dish and add delicious flavour!

Lemon

The best way to start every morning is to enjoy a warm mug of water with the juice of half a lemon squeezed in. Lemon helps to rev up the digestive system, as well as gently detoxify the liver. The liver filters out all harmful toxins in our body, so it’s important to keep this organ working optimally.

Asparagus

This green vegetable is often a hit or miss, but when flavoured just right, we are sure you might just change your opinion!

Asparagus has many benefits from protecting against cancer, keeping the heart healthy and reducing inflammation in the body. It also ranks highly as one of the top detoxifying vegetables, as it aids in liver drainage, keeping your liver healthy to do its job.

Ginger

We love the zingy kick ginger adds to a fresh vegetable juice or a thai-inspired meal! Studies have shown that ginger may be even more powerful than a popular chemotherapy drug in preventing cancer, and it helps to detox and cleanse the body by stimulating sweating, circulation and digestion. Improved digestive function helps to eliminate toxins from the body.

Turmeric

A staple in Indian cuisine, and one of our favourite spices, turmeric is one of the best spices to reduce inflammation in the body, which can contribute to disease. People with chronic inflammatory conditions have been able to go off their prescription meds, by taking turmeric instead. Turmeric is excellent as a liver cleanse. There is a phytochemical in turmeric called curcumin, that gives turmeric its distinct bright colour. Curcumin helps to stimulate the production of bile, which the liver needs to get rid of toxins, and to work optimally.

Garlic

One of nature’s most powerful antibiotics, garlic adds instant flavour to any dish. Garlic keeps the immune system strong, and the liver working well, due to high amounts of vitamin C. It is also anti-inflammatory and antibacterial and can treat anything from a cold to a stomach bug!

Foods are really the best way to provide your body with all the nutrients it needs to work its best! Just make sure you feed it the right foods!
