5 Hydrating Summer Fruits to Keep You Cool This Summer

With the warmer weather creeping up on us, we thought we’d share with you some foods that will keep you hydrated and feeling cool. During the warmer summer months, our bodies crave, raw, cooling foods that provide us with a hefty dose of nutrients and electrolytes to keep our energy levels up and prevent us from feeling sluggish and overheated.

Read on to find out a few of our favourite healthy foods to snack on this summer!

Who doesn’t love this succulent, juicy and sweet fruit? Strawberries contain about 92% water, making them the perfect snack to take to the beach, the park or anywhere you will be outdoors. They are rich in vitamin C, which will help to keep your skin bright and glowing and your body healthy. Strawberries also contain an important antioxidant called Ellagic Acid, which can actually help to protect the skin against the harmful UV rays of the sun. Don’t ditch the sunscreen though!

You may think of it as a vegetable, but technically, a cucumber is a fruit. Cucumbers contain the highest water content of any solid food, making them a must snack food this summer! They will keep you hydrated, help to flush out toxins and provide you with an array of vitamins and minerals. Try dipping them in hummus for a delicious snack or toss them in a salad.

Summer just isn’t the same without watermelon in our opinion. Watermelon is made up of about 92% water and loaded with healthy vitamins and nutrients, as well as antioxidants and amino acids. In fact, watermelon contains even more lycopene than tomatoes! Lycopene is a powerful carotenoid antioxidant that can help to protect the body against stroke, cancer and other diseases. Watermelon is not only a delicious treat, your body will thank you for it!

This one may be a bit bitter for some, but drizzled with some honey makes it easy to love! They are also made up of a whopping 90% water! Grapefruits are excellent for heart health due to a powerful combination of fiber, potassium, lycopene, choline and vitamin C. Another favourite for many, this happy fruit is made up of 87% water. Pineapples are chock full of vitamins and antioxidants, as well as an enzyme called bromelain. This enzyme really makes pineapples stand out, as it has some serious anti-inflammatory benefits, helping with chronic inflammatory conditions such as sinus or arthritis.

We hope this list helped you decide on which fruits are best to pack in your picnic basket this summer. Always remember to drink lots of water, but if there’s no water around the water content of these fruits will help to keep you hydrated and cool!
