There’s a reason there are so many self-help books out there all claiming to help you on your journey to inner peace and a new you. While we won’t dispute these claims, we will say that inner peace is a lifestyle. It’s good habits that need to be practised on a daily basis. In this era of technology, most of us have forgotten how to live in the present moment. Mindfulness is so important to live a happier, more peaceful life and it can be easier than you realize.
We have put together some of our top tips to help you to take a step back, breathe and live for right now.
This one sounds simple, but most of us simply don’t do it. Breathing is an incredible tool to relax the body and mind and is so powerful for helping to heal. Deep breathing can help with health issues such as high blood pressure to issues with the mind such as chronic anxiety or depression.
Deep breathing involves breathing from the stomach and not from the chest, which is called shallow breathing. To try it yourself, simply place your hand on your stomach. Breathe in deeply through your nose to a count of 4 and out through your mouth to a count of 7. Your stomach should expand when you breathe in as you are filling it with air. Repeat this for at least 5-10 minutes at a time and do it as often as you need to. You won’t believe how such a small change can have such a significant impact on how you feel!
It seems like everyone and their cat is doing yoga nowadays, but instead of making it just a trend, make it a daily habit to change your life.
Yoga mixes meditation, deep breathing and exercise together. Yoga originated in India and is a physical, mental and spiritual practice that will get your energy flowing, your spirits lifted and it will help to calm a troubled mind.

When something troubles us, most of us find a way to bottle it away. This is unhealthy for both the physical body and the mind as it causes stress on the body and mind. This may result in depression, irritability and just a general feeling of unease.
Writing down your thoughts in a journal is a wonderful way to unburden your mind so that you can find some peace. Often times a situation that may seem terrible, doesn’t seem as bad when we put pen to paper. Try making it a habit to journal at least once a day. At night before bed is a good time as it helps us to have a peaceful night’s sleep.
