Best Essential Oils for different types of Headaches

When a pounding headache or migraine hits, it can be tempting to just curl up in bed and count the seconds until it goes away...but wouldn’t you rather want a way to get rid of them? Of course you would! More time spent apple picking, pumpkin pie baking, and all the other lovely Fall activities.

 Ditch the pills though, and opt for a natural solution...essential oils. These are our best essential oils for helping you get rid of every type of pesky headache.

General Headache

They’re annoying and often the result of spending too much time in front of a screen, but to get rid of a general headache the best oils to use include peppermint, rosemary, basil, lavender. Rub a drop of your chosen oil over the spot that is aching to relieve the pain.

Migraines

Severe and often affecting one side of the head, migraines are most often triggered by stress, hormones, and lack of sleep. They’re best treated with a drop or two of lavender, peppermint, ylang ylang, or basil essential oils.

Tension

Most often caused by stress, tension headaches are dull pain or pressure that often occur on the front of the forehead and both sides of the head.

Use a few drops of peppermint or lavender oil in a warm bath to help ease the pain.

  

Sinus

Caused by an inflammation of the sinuses, these headaches can be felt around the eyes, forehead and cheeks. Put a few drops of eucalyptus and thyme essential oils into a diffuser or in boiled water for steam inhalation.

Gastric or Food

Yes you can get a headache from eating too much bad foods! Whether it be the sulfites found in wine, or sugar, you can easily find yourself with a painful food headache. Rub a drop of lavender or rosemary on your temples and forehead when these headaches strike for some relief.
